Teachers: Miss Burrow, Miss Cox, Miss Lee
Teaching Assistants: Mrs Mulcahy, Miss McCarthy, Mrs Perryman, Miss Jones
Summer Term - Half Term 1
This half term our topic is ‘What makes us like other animals.’ Our learning will be focused around the text, ‘What Do You Do With a Tail Like This?
The term began with a visit from Jack’s Zoo. We were amazed and enthralled at the selection of unusual animals he brought in.
Spring Term - Half Term 2
This half term our topic was based around Quentin Blake’s story ‘Mrs Armitage on Wheels.’
We explored all kinds of different transport and learnt how transport had changed over time. Our favourite was the bone-shaker which was used by people from 1869. It was the first type of bicycle with pedals but it was very uncomfortable to ride due to the iron frame and wooden wheels surrounded by tyres made of iron. Sunny brought in his new BMX bike and we compared it to the bone-shaker. We all agreed that we would prefer to ride Sunny’s bike!
Using block printing we created our own wonderful prints of vehicles from the past and present.
We also had a vehicle making afternoon for parents and children. Using dowelling we made axles and fixed them to our wheeled vehicles. We then decorated the vehicles with paints and paper.
Spring Term - Half Term 1
This half term our topic is ‘The Owl and The Pussy-Cat’. We began with a visit from some A-Level students who performed a dramatisation of ‘The Owl and The Pussy-Cat’. This inspired us to learn Edward Lear’s poem off by heart so we could perform it too.
This half term we are having a focus on Art and Design and we have been busy using different media to show our learning. So far we have explored watercolours, chalk pastels and MS Paint. Next we will be creating our silk paintings inspired by ‘The Owl and The Pussy-Cat’ poem.
Rabbits and Owls have had a fantastic start to the year. It began by learning about rabbits and owls – we learnt many fascinating facts and completed art projects based around our class animals.
In preparation for our Year Two party we have been busy investigating if party food can be healthy. As part of our Quest we have been researching the importance of eating a balanced diet, having regular exercise and being hygienic.
Warburtons helped us with our research when they visited us for an afternoon. We used The Eatwell Guide to make a healthy sandwich, ensuring that at least two different foods from the green food group were used. Did you know that it is important to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables each day?
During RE we have started to explore Bible stories that show kindness and have discussed how these stories influence Christian behaviour towards other people.
