News from 2014/15

Autumn Term 2014 – As always this term is about learning new routines making new friends and finding out how things work now we are in school. Mrs Snow is a new and welcome addition to our team, she is especially in place to work on the development of social skills and speaking and listening.

The development of our outside space has been a really exciting addition to our class, the mud kitchen is a particularly well loved and well used part of our space.

We’ve spent a lot of time learning about letters and sounds too, we’ve been introduced to all the letter shapes and we’re trying hard to learn to blend sounds to read and segment them so that we can write.

In maths its all about the talk! Finding the answer is the easy bit… being asked to prove what we think we know and explain our answers is the tricky bit!

Our Cinderella Ball was a highlight of the term, Strictly has nothing on this, its a TEN from all of us!

Spring Term 2015 – Welcome back and Happy New Year!

So far it’s all about digraphs and trigraphs, those letters that when put together make a whole new sound – th, sh, ch, igh, ear, to mention just a few. We work hard on these, being Digraph Detectives when we read and listening out for their sounds when we want to write a word.

Reuben and his mum took our school assembly and told us all about their ship the Logos Hope and the work they return to at the end of January. It’s going to be tough to say goodbye to our lovely friend.

Summer Term 2015 - We started the summer term thinking about ‘Changes’. We enjoyed the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar and learnt lots about the life cycles of caterpillars and frogs . We explored outside and watched Spring springing out all around us.

We had a wonderful visit to Pennywell Farm on May 1st we particularly loved feeding the animals and the train ride was great fun.

We moved onto learning about being ‘Fit and Well’ and we learnt how to keep our bodies healthy and strong. We made posters encouraging healthy lifestyles. We had a visit from some lovely nurses who brought in machines that let us listen to our pulses. We had our sports day then and our grown ups came to watch us run and race in teams.

Recently we have been learning about places far away and visiting them on our ‘magic carpet! We learnt lots about writing stories and words like next, suddenly and at last, that move our writing on. We have been up high, under the sea and to the rainforest.

We have  also been learning about things that move in our ‘On the move’ topic and we enjoyed making models with construction and labelling them.

We plan to finish our year with a ‘Finale’. We are looking forward to perfecting our performance for our grown ups and friends, we will be singing some of the songs that we really like. Father Robin will be presenting us all with a Bible to keep.

We have started to get to know our new teachers for next year, which is really exciting, and we know that we are ready for our next journey, all the way to Year 1!
