Book Week in Year 3
What a wonderful time we have from story writing with author Cecelia Busby to story telling with Clive Pig.
Cecelia shared story writing tips and talked about how her childhood inspired her.
Spring Term 1 - ‘Just imagine…’
We have begun this term by learning the poem The Snitterjipe by James Reeves. It is rich in descriptive language and imagery and tells a story. From this, children will be writing their own narrative poems packed with alliteration, similes and expanded noun phrases!
As part of our Just Imagine project the children have researched mythical beasts and strange creatures including Unicorns, Phoenix, dragons and the Loch Ness Monster.
Strangely, we appear to have our own mysterious creature in school. A shipping crate was discovered containing a live creature which has since escaped…keep your eyes peeled.
This terms value is Excellence and we have talked about what this means for us in and out of school. Children have created shooting stars of Excellence setting themselves targets to aim for.
The academic year is now well underway and we have started the term with a science based topic called ‘Bright Sparks’ which aims to answer the questions ‘What inspires inventors to invent?’
Over the course of the term we will be learning about Magnets and Electricity with a particular focus on creating circuits and being safe around electricity.
In our first week, we learned about our class animals and created information posters using our research.
In our PE sessions, we have looked at different ways of travelling, jumping and landing and created gymnastic sequences in pairs. We have also begun a dance unit using our topic of inventors to inspire our movements.
We produced some fabulous dragon art on St Michael's day and the children enjoyed following the online drawing tutorials.
