News from 2014/15
Autumn Term – What a brilliant start to the year! Our topic title 'Hocus Focus and Hullaballo' led us to study the exciting world of light, sound and optical illusions. Independently, they carried out several exciting Science investigations and then spent an action packed day in the Wild Life Area with Kevin Cotter. Here, the children enjoyed making their own strange and wonderful worlds and performed shadow puppet shows to their parents. In the second half of the term, the Romans invaded our classrooms. Linked to this, the
children went to the Roman Museum at Carleon in Wales to look at the amphitheatre, Roman Baths and Roman Museum. Whilst there, role play activities were a highlight, as they experienced school life for a Roman child.
Spring Term - The Spring Term has been a real highlight with our exciting topic about Chocolate, entitled 'Choca-Doodle Do' The children conducted several chocolate surveys across the school and then designed, made and improved their own chocolate product. Tasting proved particularly engaging! The skills for independent learning were reinforced as they followed their own lines of enquiry. They presented an amazing range of learning to the class with enthusiasm and great creativity. Later, they were inspired to convert their class rooms into Mr Willy Wonka’s Factory with superb models and marvellous inventions.
The last 3 weeks of term, saw the children creating and performing choral versions of the famous poem 'From a Railway Carriage' by RL Stevenson . A group of university students came in and gave a drama performance for us, too, which was thoroughly enjoyed
Summer Term - This term we have thoroughly enjoyed our Science unit Inside Out which investigated the human body. We planned, designed and made our own board games collecting as many fascinating facts about the body and turning them into questions. We had a very successful afternoon at our 'Finger Buffet with a difference' where parents not only played our amazing board games, but also sampled body inspired food!
Our Tea Party for the Tuesday Fellowship and Friends was appreciated and enjoyed by all who came. the children did themselves proud with their entertainment, flowers and refreshments.
Currently we are exploring Europe in our new topic Travel Bugs. Children have been given a country to investigate and promote as a travel agent would. The children are so excited about the fast approaching overnight trip to Escot. We are sure it'll be another highlight for year 4.
