Welcome to the Reception pages on the school website!
We are Oaks (Mrs Cragg and Mrs Sowden) and Elms (Mrs Vile and Mrs Horn).
This term has seen us all return to school with energy and excited to begin learning all about digraphs and trigraphs! We are all working hard to become more confident at writing all our letters and writing and reading simple sentences. We are thinking about teen numbers and looking at pattern in maths as well as more work on simple calculations.
After celebrating New Year we have been learning about Farm Animals, and have really enjoyed singing, dancing, writing, work on texture and with different media, role play and number work all linked with the animal theme. We have enjoyed using the large apparatus in the hall, wrapping up warm to enjoy our outside area and working together as a team.
Our value this half term is excellence, and we have considered ways that every day we can aim towards excellence in our learning, in our attitudes and relationships. This is all really helping us understand how we can become better learners.
Our RE theme of 'How can we help others when they need it' has helped us think about how we relate and treat each other; we have enjoyed taking turns to be 'Helping Heroes' in the classroom.
Thanks for your help too, all your work practicing letter sounds and tricky triangle words is really paying off.
Its hard to believe that it’s already October, that our transition phase is over and that all your children are now in school full time.
We’d like to extend a huge thank you to all the parents and carers for your patience and support over those first few weeks. With so much help from you the children in both classes are growing in confidence and getting to grips with everything involved in their new school life.
Reading books are now a part of our weekly routine, please remember to change them on a Monday and a Thursday every week. Let us know if you need any help to do this.
Phonics is a huge part of our learning this term too, we’ll be working to introduce the sounds that each of the 26 letters of our alphabet make so that we can use them to read and write. Look out for our Fact Finder in the week before half term.
Our core learning skill this half term is learning with others.
It sounds so easy but when you are only 4 and there are so many new faces to recognise and get to know it’s a massive challenge! We are working hard to get to know each others names and to learn our classroom routines.
Our core value is respect, it’s a great one to help us think about our behaviour and how we treat each other and our school property.
Being tired is also part of this term’s challenge, we have cushions and blankets in quiet places around our room for those of us who need a rest in the afternoon. (Not the grown ups!!!)
Please, please keep talking to us and sharing your worries and your delights, we really value your input and need your help to make your child’s first year at our school as successful as possible.
