News from 2013/14
We began the year with the topic of ‘Ourselves’. The children learnt how to stay healthy by eating a balanced diet, drinking water and being active. The children then worked on the topic of ‘The Great Fire of London’, which linked to learning about Samuel Pepys and his diary.
Our spring term began with our ‘Twisted Tales’ topic where were told the story of Puss in Boots. Our ‘Nocturnal Animals’ topic inspired the children. The children all thoroughly enjoyed their trip to West Town farm to learn about badgers. As part of our animal topic, we had a visit from the Wildlife Trust who talked to the children about nocturnal animals. The children researched animals of their choice using books and the Internet.
In the summer term we turned our attention to learning about ‘Seaside holidays and Transport through Time’. This topic has allowed the children to deepen their scientific understanding by investigating what makes a car travel furthest down a ramp. A great time was had by all when the parents and carers came into school to help the children build the vehicles they had designed.
We then enjoyed a fabulous day at Dawlish Warren where we spent time at the nature reserve and on the beach. We have also been learning about symbols in RE. As part of our learning, we visited St Michael’s Church. The children had a lovely time identifying and drawing Christian symbols. They have also learnt about Hindu symbols.
